Homework: Finish still life painting for critique on Monday 2/5, gather reference photos on dog/cat images in journal, find a real dog/cat to draw in motion studies if possible (or watch videos and draw for half an hour). -Gather Reference photos (10 online or that you have taken)--printout. -Compile list of words (20 from journal & 10 from assignment list). -Purchase or find a canvas/wood panel 18" x 24" or larger.Gather some other reference photos to work with. Find an image from a magazine source, book, postcards, ephemera, your own photo’s, friends photos etc. **Bring all of these materials to class with scissors tape and glue to begin making your congruent and incongruent collages.

UNIT 2: Image and Word (DOG/CAT/Animal Paintings) DUE: February 19 th (MONDAY) Compile a list of 20 words from your daily journal exercises so far and 10 words from the list below (total of 30). Perhaps choose a drawing and a few found materials from your daily journal exercises. Find online or in person, 10 images of cats/dogs/animals- print out. Follow these steps for each. Juxtapose a word with an image that are congruent and have a relationship. Then combine a word and an image that are incongruent and have no relationship to each other except for they way you decide to connect them. Crop the image into interesting design or compositional format that brings a sense of vitality or focus to your picture. Create a fresh and dynamic visual connection between your image and word.
